Youth

Job Training for Beaver County, Inc. recognizes the importance of preparing young people for success in the workplace so that they can make informed choices about education and training needed to pursue careers in high demand occupations.  We connect young people and schools to opportunities and experiences that promote career awareness and academic preparation.

Services for Youth

Work Experience programs, both paid and unpaid, are intended to provide individuals with an opportunity to learn good work habits and basic work skills in a real world work environment.  Email Beth for more information on the following Work Experience Services.                                         

→Summer and Year-Round Work Experience                                          

  • Short term subsidized experiences that are designed for youth with little or no prior work experience, to gain basic skills while working directly with an employer.
  • Work readiness skills will be developed in a supervised environment.

                              

Internships                                         

  • A six week, wage subsidized program that provides opportunities to youth to explore career choices while learning basic occupational skills.

                

Credential Programs indicate to an employer that “certified” individuals have the attributes to be successful in the workplace.  Areas addressed include soft skills, traits that demonstrate an effective employee, such as good communication skills, self discipline, and organizational skills, as well as general and basic academic skills, such as math, reading, and computer skills.  Email Poppy for more information on the following Credential Programs.          

→National Retail Federation Certification                                          

  • Signifies that a person who earns it has demonstrated knowledge and skill noted as important to successful employment in best-practice, high-performance companies in the sales and service industry.
  • Proctored certification exam.

                              

→Work Certified                                        

  • Workforce Readiness Program that addresses how to build and validate skills that employers want.
  • To become Work Certified you must master 50 competencies scoring 80% or better.
  • Job seekers who achieve certification have excellent work ethics, motivation and initiative.     

                

Job Shadowing can be arranged to “shadow” a professional during a normal work day to see first hand what skills and education are needed to perform the job.  Email Beth for more information on Job Shadowing.                          

Skills Training is available for qualified individuals either through postsecondary education providers or with an employer to learn new job skills while working.  Email Rich for more information on the following Skills Training Services.                                         

→Occupational Training                                          

  • Update your skills or train for a new occupation.
  • Assess your training needs and determine if you qualify for up to $8,000 in funded tuition assistance.
  • Find approved training programs on the PA CareerLink website: www.pacareerlink.state.pa.us.

                              

→On-The-Job Training                                         

  • Learn new job skills while working.
  • Must meet eligibility requirements.

→Compute-A-Match                                          

  • Computerized and manual testing system that assesses academic as well as hands on testing of motor skills such as hand eye coordination.
  • Results focus on strengths and are available within one week as well as are easy to understand.
  • Available in English and Spanish.
  • Compliant with ADA regulations.

                   

 →WorkKeys®                                         

  • Skills needed in all occupations – skilled or professional – and at any level of education.
  • A job skills assessment system that helps employers make informed hiring decisions.

Services for Professionals

The following Workshops can be conducted by our professional staff to prepare youth for employment and/or post-secondary careers.  Additional allowable services are offered through the Regional Career Education Partnership Grant.  Email Beth for more information on the following Workshops.                                          

→Career Readiness                                          

  • 20 hours of in class time.
  • Professionalism, telephone etiquette, work ethics, personal appearance and hygiene.
  • Industry career exploration using PACareerZones and Job Searches.
  • Job application process and resume writing.
  • Job interviewing skills and mock interviews.

                                    

→Junior Achievement Success Skills                                          

  • 7 Sessions @ 45 minutes per session.
  • Provides engaging, academically enriching and experimental learning sessions in work.
  • Identify and demonstrate the work readiness skills needed to research jobs, get a job and keep the job.
  • Develop innovative personal strategies to achieve lifelong learning pursuits and career opportunities.

                                     

→Junior Achievement Company Business                                          

  • 12 sessions @ 1 hour per session (can be adjusted to fit class time).
  • Emphasized business content while providing a strong focus on social studies, math, reading, and writing skills.
  • Enhances students’ classroom curriculum.
  • Students are encouraged to use innovative thinking to learn business skills that support positive attitudes as they explore and enhance their career aspirations. Use hands on activities and technological supplements.

                                     

→Banking on Our Future                                          

  • Financial education.
  • 4 modules:  Banking Basics, Checking and Savings Accounts, Power of Credit, and Basic Investments.
  • Examines financial concepts and decision making through real life problems and math computations.
  • Four 1 hour sessions or two 4 hour sessions (also can be broken into 4 separate classes to fit class time).
